So, what will your day look like?
Hello I am 11 years old and I live with epilepsy, global development delay, bifrontal polymicrogyria and encephalopathy. I live at home with my mom and brother. I have two older siblings who no longer live at home. I enjoy going to school and attend Victoria school during the week in which my carers will support me with. I am having an extension built and will soon have a ground level bedroom. I follow Christian faith and like to listen to prayers each night before I go to sleep. I get all of my nutrients from a pureed diet. I also have a range of different medications in which my mom manages. I require support from care staff for all personal care activities and am doubly incontinent and require support with changing my incontinence wear regularly. I suffer from very complex epilepsy. There are many things that can trigger a seizure including a change in temperature, illness and especially loud noises. My mum explains that when there is a loud, sudden noise, this is the main trigger for a seizure. My mum also explains that when I experience a seizure, I sometimes can stop breathing and require CPR. I also have a rescue medication called buccal midazolam which can be administered into each of my cheeks which help my seizures to resolve. I must be given this if my seizure lasts for longer than 5 minutes. I have also been known to injure my mouth/teeth during a seizure so please be mindful of this. I am non-verbal but I have a good understanding of what is being said to me. I like to watch youtube and children's programmes. I also like to have a bath each day after school to help minimise the risk of catching an infection. It is vital that care staff adhere strictly to infection control procedures as I am very susceptible to infection and can become very ill from minor illnesses.
I am looking for someone who is caring, compassionate and very keen to promote my independence. You need to be patient and include me in everything. If you want to make a real difference in my life and become my friend who is not scared to speak up for me please get in touch. Thank you
